Position Summary
The Associate, Legal
and Compliance is a key member of the Legal and Compliance departments,
primarily focuses on general legal and administrative operations.
This role offers an
opportunity for an experienced professional with legal and compliance exposure
to assist in providing and executing internal advice on legal and compliance
issues across departments at NYU Shanghai.
Candidates should
possess the legal skills and acumen to objectively analyze, summarize and apply
laws and facts to ensure the activities of NYU Shanghai and its faculty,
students and staff are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and NYU
Shanghai policies.
The main responsibilities include:
Legal (70%)
● Conduct legal review of procurement
contracts, research agreements and other legal documents;
● Conduct legal research on specific issues and
keep up to date with legal and regulatory developments relevant to NYU
Shanghai; prepare summaries of research for distribution to relevant
departments;
● Conduct other matters assigned by the General
Counsel and Associate General Counsel.
Compliance (20%)
● Draft and review policies, procedures, and
guidelines governing NYU Shanghai’s academic and administrative operations;
● Manage policies and guidelines on the website
and legal and compliance department documents;
● Assist with provision of general compliance
advice and trainings, remain current on legal decisions, statutory changes and
industry developments, and advise clients accordingly;
● Conduct other matters assigned by the General
Counsel and Assistant Compliance Officer.
Administrative Support (10%)
● Provide general administrative support to the
Legal and Compliance departments.
Qualifications
Required Education
● LL.B or above.
Required Experience
● At least 2-4 years of relevant work
experience with law firms or multinational companies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Ability to boil down complex issues,
synthesize them and recommend logical decisions or to escalate decisions to
supervisors, as necessary;
● Excellent written and verbal communication
skills (Chinese and English);
● Ability to work independently and be
self-motivate;
● Ability to handle sensitive matters and make
timely executions;
● Strong organizational skills and ability to
balance competing demands and work under pressure;
● Excellent judgment and professional
integrity.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
● Familiarity or experience with higher
education.
